The hair loss treatment Propecia has made headlines several times over the last decade, and not always for good reasons. Some of the side effects from taking Propecia have led to lawsuits against the company. Here are some of the most common side effects of Propecia, along with several lawsuits against its manufacturers, Merck & Co.

Side Effects of Propecia
Some of the most common side effects of the hair loss drug Propecia are related to men's sexual health and performance. Decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorder are among the highest reported side effects. Research by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found these side effects to be most common in men between the ages of 21 and 46. Many users also reported the side effects lasting up to 40 months, even after treatment had been stopped.
Other Side Effects
Some of the other side effects of Propecia include:
- Allergic reactions, including hives, itching, rashes, and swelling of the face and lips
- Depression
- Male infertility and reduced quality of semen
- Male breast enlargement and tenderness
- Testicular pain
- Male breast cancer or increased risk of prostate cancer
These are just some of the side effects alleged to be caused by taking Propecia, although the entire list is quite extensive. Despite this long list of side effects, many governing bodies allow this hair loss drug to be sold globally. Many people who take the drug are also unaware of the potential side effects until it is too late.
Lawsuits Against Merck & Co.
There have been various significant lawsuits against Merck & Co., the company that makes and supplies Propecia. Many of these lawsuits are related to erectile dysfunction, with hundreds of U.S. cases filed against Merck & Co. for this reason. Many of those filing lawsuits have complained of sexual health problems that have continued even after stopping Propecia, along with the psychological impact this can have on them. Some claim that erectile dysfunction has continued for years after stopping Propecia, along with decreased libido.
Latest Propecia Lawsuit
The latest lawsuit comes from a man in Jacksonville who claims that Merck & Co. have caused him permanent sexual side effects. The plaintiff, who submitted his case in August 2014, believes he has a strong case on grounds of negligence, infliction of emotional stress, and fraud, among five other causes of action listed. This Jacksonville case is just one of many with the same causes of action and allegations made against Propecia and the company that makes this hair loss treatment.
Conclusion
With hundreds of millions of men around the world using Propecia and/or the related product Proscar on a regular basis, it seems as though the lawsuits are set to keep piling up.
